For the first time in a quite awhile, I have some time to sit and write. I do feel a bit guilty because Erick and Cayla are outside doing yard work and this is my time to clean the house...but it has been awhile since I've posted anything so here I go.
I have been keeping up as much as I can on the "Occupy Wall Street" movement. It is one that I support. I would classify myself as a social progressive and a fiscal conservative. Over the last two years I have been having an inner debate over whether or not I want to vote as an Independent or remain a Republican. Now that Independents can vote in primary's if they designate a party primary to vote in I think I will change my party identification. I am rambling though, because this is just the tip of what this whole movement has me thinking about. I heard someone I know...a very big conservative make a comment about the list mentioned in the link below:
http://occupywallst.org/forum/proposed-list-of-demands-for-occupy-wall-st-moveme/
I am sure that he heard about it on talk radio and I am also sure that he didn't do any research on his own. He just goes along with whatever he is fed through the media or the radio. I posted this on facebook as well and this was the comment that I posted with it,
"I listen to talk radio and I know first hand what is being said and misconstrued and it pisses me off once again that so many conservatives are trying to paint this into something wrong. There is nothing wrong for standing up for yourself and demanding that the 1% be held accountable for their theft from the majority of this countries population. I hear my conservative friends constantly bitch about where their taxes go, and why are they paying for people that do don't do anything, etc...they bitch about tax breaks also...well here you go. Here is a chance to really bring to light all the tax breaks and corruption that EVERYONE knows is happening. Do all my friends on the right agree with corporate greed and government bail outs...I know they don't. But they can't get past the possibility that supporting this movement may associate them in some way with a liberal or progressive view point as well or they think this is a huge hippie uprising. Get over yourselves and educate yourselves then. Read up on the secret trillion dollar bailouts the Federal Reserve has been involved in, look into why you work your ass off everyday for 67 years and in the end the government still gives your money to the 1%. This is not about big government or socialism like the neo-cons want you to believe...this is about accountability. ACCOUNTABILITY...isn't that a huge basis for conservatives...making your own way and being accountable for your actions...not needing the government to take care of you! Yet the 1% rely on the government tax breaks and hide behind the federal loopholes that make them unaccountable. I have been realizing more and more that I am a progressive conservative. I want to believe that other conservatives out there can still educate themselves about what is going on without just being a mindless drone that doesn't think for themselves."
I know for a fact that there are many people all over the country supporting this movement in their own cities, who have jobs and families, and are not "homeless hippies with nothing better to do". They are making time in their schedules to stand up for what they believe in. They are not just making snide remarks at the TV or reading an article and venting their opinion to the empty space next to them. They are getting involved and still making it to work everyday. They are part of the 99%. It is funny because the unemployment rate is at around 9.1% so that leaves what 89.9% of the population among the 99% that are affected by the economic collapse of our country. I know that I try to approach some of what I write from an angle that may make more sense to a conservative. The bottom line is that the only way to get more people involved is to relate to them in a way that they understand. You can't just convince a neo-con that this isn't about government regulation. However, you may be able to show someone who is just apathetic what this movement is truly about with some rational conversation and real examples of how they are being affected by the economic crisis that has been brought on by the 1%. When I talk about the one percent I am also including the members of our government that have allowed them to get away with bilking us for decades. I am talking about the house and senate committees that just allow loophole corporate tax crap to run rampant. Is that a technical enough term for you. I don't believe that the government should micro manage big business, but I don't believe that they should be enabling them to rip us off either. And the 1% definitely includes any and all politicians that get those nice juicy kick backs, oh I'm sorry I mean "political contributions" from big business. That is on every side of the political spectrum.
I would like to write more, but my mom just called and she needs my help...so I am going to her house to give her a hand. If I was big business I would hire someone to hire someone to go to her house and instruct someone else how to help her and then I would charge her for all the people that I hired to help her and find a way to get out of paying any of the people that were hired and then I would claim it as a tax break next year.
I am part of the 99% and I support "Occupy Wall Street"!
I love this post! *dons pimp hat*
